The design takes its inspiration from the local environment and cultural context of Beihai, a city that has witnessed the fusion and collision of Oriental and Western cultures. The design team has abstracted the flowing ripples of the sea, incorporating them into the space through the rich changes of light and shadows. The result is a poetic space that encourages visitors to capture the moments where water surface ripples and contemplate the changes in life.

What sets the Gemdale Casa Oia apart is its minimalist design language that narrates the rolling form of sea waves. This is translated into an art installation that offers dramatic visual effects and seems to shake off the shackles of spatial boundaries. The imagination about mountain and sea is the design thread that runs through the entire space. Light shines on rocks and is refracted and extended by glass, creating a unique visual experience.

The project, which spans 1060 square meters, was realized using materials such as art paint, grey stone, cement stone, and metal plate. The biggest challenge faced by the design team was in material selection and achieving a lighting atmosphere that is ethereal and features rich layering. The space mainly adopts black, white, gray, and warm tones, extracting various brilliant hues that the sea presents in different natural conditions.

The Gemdale Casa Oia project started in August 2019 and was completed in September 2020. The design team, which includes Cui Duan, Luo Hui, Fu Zhiheng, Zhang Yuan, Ye Shaoling, Chen Yongqiu, Tan Ling, Lai Haojun, and Fan Chenming, has successfully created a space that resonates with the natural beauty of Beihai and its cultural context.

The project's success is reflected in its accolades. The Gemdale Casa Oia was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
